Reports: Life-size statue of Sachin Tendulkar to be installed at Wankhede Stadium

Sachin Tendulkar's contributions to Mumbai cricket are second to none and it seems that the Master Blaster will soon be honoured for the same in one of the most grand ways possible as a life-size statue of the legendary batter is set to be installed at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Sachin played his last international game at the iconic venue in 2013 against the West Indies and as per the Indian Express the statue will either be unveiled on Sachin's upcoming 50th birthday (April 30) or later in the year during the 50-over World Cup as it is slated to be organised in the country.

As reported by the Indian Express, Amol Kale, who is the president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Sachin has agreed to the same and once the statue comes to life, it will be the first-ever statue installed at the historic venue.

“It will be the first statue in Wankhede Stadium, we will decide where it will be placed,” MCA president Kale was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

“He (Sachin) is a Bharat Ratna and everyone knows what he has done for cricket. As he turns 50, it will be a small token of appreciation from the MCA. I spoke to him three weeks ago and his consent was received,” Kale said.

MCA is known for paying fitting tributes to its players who were able to contribute to the sport and managed to create a cult following for themselves. The same venue already has a stand named after the 2011 World Cup winning player. In addition to that, it also has a stand named after Dilip Vengasarkar and a corporate box named after the Little Master Sunil Gavaskar.

Sachin had an illustrious international career that spanned over two decades before it came to a halt at the Wankhede in a Test match against the Windies in November 2013. During his playing days, he was able to bag many historic milestones.
