Rohit Sharma is so close yet so far in winning the ICC silverware for India. It started with a semifinal loss in the T20 World Cup 2022, succumbing to Australia in the World Test Championship Final and World Cup 2023 final. Now the India captain has given one more shot at the glory that had eluded him so far. He has led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 Final and former England captain, Nasser Hussain has pinned his hopes on Rohit to deliver big.
The India opener is also known for his laid-back approach and keeping the dressing atmosphere light. It has worked in his favour during his captaincy tenure with Mumbai Indians in IPL and the cricketer has continued the same in the Indian dressing room. Hussain highlighted that Rohit has a rigid personality behind a soft outlook and can also be the guiding light for the youngsters in the team.
“I have been a fan of Rohit for a very long time, as a batter, as a captain, and as a person. He seems to have a very calming influence. Whereas you had other captains, maybe like Virat, who wore their hearts on their sleeves, and they are incredibly passionate. Rohit is like that iron fist in a velvet glove. You do not mess around with Rohit, but he is also a big brother who will put his arm around you and look after you,” Hussain said on Star Sports.
Rohit Sharma back in business at the T20 World Cup 2024
The India opener made a stellar comeback after a series of bad outings at the T20 World Cup 2024. His comeback innings came against Australia as he scored a rapid 92 off 41 deliveries as India posted their first 200-plus total. He continued the same form in the semifinal against England and bailed out India from an early blow by scoring 57 off 39 deliveries.
