RR vs RCB: Sanju Samson breaches 4000 run mark in IPL

Sanju Samson might not get many opportunities in the national side, but he is making his craft count in the shortest format. The Rajasthan Royals captain has just surpassed 4000 Indian Premier League runs. He achieved this feat as he scored his third run during his appearance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday. As a result, he has joined the very few batters who have breached the 4000-run mark in IPL.

Samson has been a force to reckon with in the IPL. Having started his journey under the guidance of former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, he has time and again proved his mettle. His landmark achievement came in his 136^th appearance in IPL. He has 22 half-centuries and three centuries to his name. He trails behind RCB’s captain Faf du Plessis who has over 4100 runs in IPL.

For over six years, the right-handed batter has been the linchpin behind the RR’s batting arsenal. When the franchise was serving a ban for two years, he appeared for the Delhi Capitals meanwhile. During his stay at DC, he impressed everyone with his performance. In the 28 games he played for Delhi, he amassed 677 runs with a ton and three fifties. He is the only batter to have scored more than 3000 runs for the Royals.

Irreplaceable Sanju Samson in Royals’ Pantheon 

The Kerala batter's contribution to the Rajasthan franchise is second to none. In the inaugural game for RR in IPL 2024, his unbeaten 82-run knock helped the team seal a 20-run victory against Lucknow Super Giants. He also stands as the second batter with the most number of fifty-plus scores for the franchise. With the captain’s innings against LSG, he recorded 21 fifty-plus scores for the Royals.
