Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris made a rather blunt assessment of the dismal form endured by Delhi Capitals (DC) batter Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing IPL 2023. Notably, the batter has featured in six matches and managed to get a meagre 47 runs at an average of 7.83, with his highest being 15 runs.

His last match was against KKR, wherein he could only manage to get 13 runs before getting dismissed. However, the 23-year-old has since then been dropped from the setup, with Phil Salt taking his place in the top-order.

On the other hand, another youngster who has made significant strides in the league is Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal. The flamboyant southpaw is among the leading run-getters, as he has collected 442 runs in 10 outings, lacing it with three half-centuries and one ton at an excellent average of 44.20.

During a discussion in JioCinema, Brett Lee and former Kiwi player Scott Styris voiced their stance on Jaiswal’s and Shaw’s impact in the ongoing competition. Unimpressed with the DC batter’s run, Styris passed his verdict on the player and advised Shaw to grind harder and get himself fit.

“I know you used Prithvi Shaw's name here. All the competition of young players around… Shaw is so far off the pace, it's not even funny. He needs to work, he needs to go back to domestic cricket and the IPL, and work out on his game. He has to get himself fit and be indispensable,” Styris said on JioCinema.

Jaiswal is going to play for India for many years: Brett Lee

On the other hand, Jaiswal, who is relishing a brilliant season for the Royals, earned massive praise from the Aussie great. With his current form, Lee added that the southpaw would go on to play for the national team for a long time.

“I'm really impressed by his (Yashasvi Jaiswal) temperament, his strike rate is absolutely brilliant. He's got the right attitude. He's going to play for India for many, many years,” Lee told on JioCinema.
