Youngster Shubman Gill played some phenomenal cricket in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. The opener smashed 890 runs in 17 matches, which is the second-highest by any cricketer in the history of the competition. However, the 23-year-old wants to leave that behind and concentrate on the upcoming World Test Championship finale against Australia, which is slated to begin on June 7 at The Oval, London.

Speaking about the difficulties of switching to Test cricket after a marathon T20 tournament, Gill mentioned that it is not only fun, but also challenging. He also mentioned that his performance in the IPL will definitely boost his confidence going ahead but also understands that Test cricket is a different ball game and the conditions in England will be completely different than that of India.

“It does give you a bit of confidence (from the IPL), but I feel this is a completely different scenario and a completely different game but that's the fun about it. Last week we were playing something completely different with a different atmosphere and that is the challenge and that is what is exciting about Test cricket,” Gill said while talking to ICC.

Hopefully, we will be able to overcome the mistakes we made last time: Gill

In the last edition of the World Test Championship final, team India lost to New Zealand in the final by eight wickets, and speaking about the same, Gill mentioned that everyone in the team spoke about the same and they will try to overcome the mistakes this time around.

“We have been talking about some of the things we have learned as a team and especially as a batting group from playing that match. Hopefully, we will be able to overcome the mistakes we made last time,” Gill concluded.

Notably, Gill himself scored 28 and 8 runs across both innings but he has matured since then and is one of the rare Indian cricketers in recent couple of years to hit centuries in all three formats of the game.
