The ongoing T20I series between India Women and Australia Women took a turn when the Women in Blue bounced back stronger in the second game to level it 1-1. The second T20I was a memorable one for India as they played their first-ever Super Over, put up a 21-run target and went on to defeat Australia at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, December 11.

But there is one player who has been relishing a great time in this series. India’s wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh showed brilliant batting skills in both the T20Is. Her unbeaten 13-ball 26* was one of the major reasons behind India levelling the score with Australia while chasing in the second game. Ghosh has been batting aggressively, and her power-hitting skills are the talk of the town currently.

Ahead of the third T20I, she addressed the media and spoke about her knock as she said:

“Smriti Didi (Mandhana) had told me ‘Khatam karke aana’ (finish the game and come), so I just did that. I have always focused on power-hitting. I worked hard on it and also focused on my mental toughness. It all went according to our plan. I always look to stay till the end and win it for my team. We had our plan in place. The idea was to keep the run flow going in the middle overs so that we don’t have to go hard in the slog overs.”

Hopefully, I’ll meet MS Dhoni someday: Richa

Richa revealed how she has admired former India skipper and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, and said that she looks up to him. She also highlighted her father’s role in her career, which has helped her improve her power-hitting. The 19-year-old added that she has not got an opportunity to meet Dhoni yet and expressed her desire to meet the veteran.

“Since childhood, I’ve followed Dhoni and how he used to finish the game. My dad (Manabendra Ghosh) also helped a lot to hone my power-hitting skills, he would go with me everywhere. He could not go on to become a successful cricketer so he’s backing me fully to chase my dreams. I haven’t had the opportunity to meet him yet. There have been times when he would leave just before we were in for a camp or a match at a venue. Hopefully, I’ll meet him someday,” she said.

After the conclusion of the T20I home series against Australia, Richa Ghosh will be next seen at the ICC Women's Under-19 World Cup which is set to begin from January 14, 2023.
