Former India opener Aakash Chopra is confident that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will qualify for the playoffs in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The most anticipated T20 tournament will begin on March 31 with Gujarat Titans hosting Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, SRH will begin their 2023 IPL campaign against last year’s runner-up Rajasthan Royals on April 2 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The 2016 IPL champions, who had a terrible season last year, are coming into the upcoming tournament with a brilliant squad. They have signed the in-form Aiden Markram and appointed the South African star as their new skipper. Notably, they have roped in many other brilliant players like Mayank Agarwal, Adil Rashid, Heinrich Klaasen, and Vivrant Sharma among others.
In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, the former cricketer opined that SRH will be in the top four after the league stage of the 2023 IPL, and reckoned that Markram’s captaincy will be a huge plus point for the Orange Army.
"This team should qualify this time. Team Hyderabad is looking absolutely brilliant in my opinion. I feel this team will go till the end under Aiden Markram's captaincy. It is a powerful team."
I see numerous strengths in SRH: Aakash Chopra
The former Kolkata Knight Riders player also shared his opinion about the players who can make it to Hyderabad's playing XI. The 45-year-old pointed out that they have three top-order Indian batters- Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, and Abhishek Sharma. He also spoke about the overseas players who play spin well and are able to adjust to Indian conditions.
“I see numerous strengths in this team. This team looks like a complete team. They have Indian batters at the top. Two (Mayank Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi) of the three are extremely good and Abhishek Sharma is not bad either,” Chopra said.
"Then you have three overseas middle-order batters who do that job only - Aiden Markram, Harry Brook, and Heinrich Klaasen. All three play spin well and I feel all three will do well in Indian conditions,” he added.
