The 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday, April 14.

After losing the first two games of the season, Hyderabad won their previous game against Punjab Kings. Batting first, the 2016 champions looked for a good start to the innings. However, veteran Windies all-rounder Andre Russell had a different plan in mind.

Russell was handed the ball in the fifth over of the game, and that is when the 34-year-old bowled fabulously. He took two wickets in the over to send Mayank Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi back to the pavilion, mounting some early pressure on Hyderabad.

Agarwal was dismissed on the very first ball of the over after an outside edge sent the ball straight to Varun Chakravarthy at short third. On the other hand, Rahul Tripathi was dismissed on the very last ball of the fifth over, after a failed attempt to pull the ball sent it sky high as Rahmanullah Gurbaz took a comfortable catch.

Both KKR and SRH look to register back-to-back wins

Both Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad come into the game on the back of wins in their previous games to Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, respectively. With just one win under their belt so far, the Aiden Markram-led Hyderabad would be desperate to register a win and move up in the IPL points table.

On the other hand, Kolkata would be brimming with confidence after winning their previous game in fabulous fashion, where Rinku Singh’s heroics became the talk of the town after the 25-year-old hit five consecutive sixes in the last over against Gujarat to seal a magnificent win for them. SRH managed to finish off the first innings on a high note after notching up 228/4 courtesy of a century by Harry Brook.
