Former India pacer Irfan Pathan advocates for Shubman Gill's immediate inclusion in the lineup for the upcoming high-voltage ICC World Cup 2023 showdown against Pakistan this Saturday. Gill's selection has remained a point of intense discussion and scrutiny, fueling anticipation among cricket enthusiasts.

In a recent interview, Pathan emphasized the crucial partnership between Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, underscoring its significance for Team India. The ex-cricketer recommended the India opener's inclusion if he's in good form and feeling fit, proposing a possible replacement of Ishan Kishan to accommodate the returning talent in the team.

"Straight away. Straight away get him in because of the kind of combination they are creating between Gill and Rohit Sharma. That combination has given India probably 100 average, especially since they have come back together. If he's feeling good, if he's not feeling weak, I definitely would get him in. Straightforward. Shubman Gill comes in for Ishan Kishan," Pathan said on Star Sports.

In the lead-up to the India vs Pakistan World Cup clash in Ahmedabad, Rohit Sharma, in a pre-match press conference, announced that the 24-year-old stands at "99% readiness" for the crucial encounter. Gill, having arrived ahead of the squad, diligently honed his skills in the nets on Thursday, instilling optimism within the team's ranks for his potential inclusion.

Enduring health setbacks, notably dengue, the Punjab batter faced a substantial decline in his platelet levels, requiring hospitalization at Chennai's Kaveri facility. Undeterred by these hurdles, the young cricketer exhibited a remarkable resurgence, rejoining the squad in Ahmedabad on October 11, 2023, just in time for the crucial encounter, showcasing his determination and resilience on and off the field.

On the eve of the match, the right-handed batter landed in Ahmedabad and immediately made his way to the Narendra Modi Stadium at approximately 11 AM. In a dedicated practice session lasting well over an hour, he focused on sharpening his skills. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) ensured a top-notch practice environment by providing six net bowlers and a specialist for throwdowns, further enhancing his preparation.
