Just when everything felt done and dusted for Pakistan, it was South Africa’s loss to the Netherlands in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Super 12 stage that handed them a ray of hope to qualify for the semi-finals. The Men in Green had initially lost their first fixture to arch-rivals, India that followed by a shocking loss to Zimbabwe which dented their chances of progressing further.

South Africa, on the other hand, were undefeated to a certain point and then came the losses to Pakistan and a stunning result against the Netherlands that knocked them out of the event. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s match with Bangladesh became a virtual quarterfinal because of the Dutch side handing an upset to the Proteas.

The Men in Green comprehensively capitalised on the advantage and won their encounter against the Bangla Tigers which handed them a semi-finals berth. Former Pakistan international and incumbent Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja took to Twitter to post a cryptic message following the national side’s qualification into the last four of the World Cup.

"They plan and Allah plans and Allah is the best of planners," Ramiz posted a verse from the holy book of Quran.

Pakistan into the semi-finals

Although, many would argue that Pakistan's semi-final qualification is purely a result of luck, they played some really good cricket in the last three games to get themselves into such a position. However, such was not the case a few matches ago as after the shock defeat to Zimbabwe as many questioned the squad and asked Ramiz to resign from his position.

In any case, it appears as though the prayers of the Pakistan fans have been heard and the sensational display of performance by the team against Bangladesh finally paid off. The side will now lock horns with the winners of Group 1, New Zealand in the forthcoming semi-finals on Wednesday, November 09 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
