Scotland have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will commence on October 16 in Australia. Richie Berrington will lead the side as their long-serving captain, Kyle Coetzer, retired from all forms of cricket in July. Fast bowlers Josh Davey and Brad Wheal, who were part of the previous edition in 2021, have been named in the squad.
Scotland also featured in the group stages of the global T20I event last year and also qualified for the Super 12. And they have played only two T20Is ever since, both of which were against New Zealand in July, earlier this year. They lost both the games, which were played in Edinburgh. They are currently placed at 15th position in the ICC T20I Rankings and will play in Group B along with Ireland, West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Head coach of the side, Shane Burger, said that he was looking forward to seeing those players who are not part of the World Cup challenging for “international honours” in the future. "For those players who are not going to the world cup, we look forward to seeing them challenging for international honours in years to come," Burger was quoted as saying in India Today.
Scotland to play warm-up games ahead of T20 World Cup
Scotland’s next assignment will be a warm-up game against Netherlands on October 10 at Junction Oval, Melbourne. They will play another warm-up game against United Arab Emirates (UAE) ahead of the World Cup. Their first game of the tournament will be against West Indies in Hobart on October 17.
The skipper, Berrington, is on a hot streak with the bat, scoring 303 runs at an average of 33.66 in the last 12 innings in T20Is. And he is expected to lead the Scottish side from the front yet again in Australia.
