Team India and the Netherlands emerged victorious in their respective matches of the Super 12 stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on November 2. While Zimbabwe and the Netherlands were playing their fixture for pride, the India-Bangladesh contest was more about winning the crucial two points to solidify the position for a semi-final berth.

In the first game, Zimbabwe did not have much to do with the ball while their batting performance was a complete disappointment. The side managed to post an underwhelming score of 117 on the board despite the efforts from Sikandar Raza who scored a 24-ball 40 that eventually went in vain.

In response, the Dutch side aced the chase and made short work, finishing the game in just 18 overs. Max O'Dowd exuded calmness and played smartly to guide his side through a small run-chase. The African nation tried to fight hard by scalping five wickets but a low total of just 117 was never really going to do the job for the side.

India’s much needed victory

India and neighbours Bangladesh clashed in a much-anticipated fixture as both the teams were looking to make their case for the last four stronger. India were put in to bat first by the Bangla skipper and sensational performances by opener KL Rahul and former India skipper Virat Kohli guided the side to attain a competitive total of 184.

Both Kohli (64*) and Rahul (50) managed to get fifties under their belt as the side looked fierce to earn the two points and get the job done. In response, Bangladesh were determined to put up a fight at the Adelaide Oval and started off well as Najmul Shanto and Litton Das constructed a solid partnership.

Meanwhile, it was the rain gods that made their presence felt and for a brief moment, the match was halted. After the match officials handed the green signal to carry on the game, Bangladesh were asked to chase 151 in their 16 overs as per DLS, but team India bowlers were in no mood to take matters complacently as they racked up wickets in quick succession.

India then went on to earn two points with a much-needed victory, courtesy of Arshdeep Singh who defended seven off the last ball. While the semi-final berths are not yet confirmed, India are closer than ever to reaching the last four.
