Just before the start of the T20 World Cup, former India captain MS Dhoni in a popular advertisement decided to rewind the clock and do things that he felt acted as a lucky charm in India's 2011 ODI World Cup win.
The advertisement became quite popular on social media as a lot of cricketers were spotted imitating the same. Wasim Jaffer has become the latest cricketer to talk about it and reminded the Indian fans that history might repeat itself once again.
Interestingly, during the 2003 and 2011 ODI World Cup, team India faced the Netherlands in the tournament and fortunately qualified for the finals on both occasions. While India lost to Australia in the 2003 final but managed to defeat Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final to bag their second title in the 50-over format.
Can India repeat history and once again manage to qualify for the finals after facing the Netherlands early on? Wasim Jaffer hopes so!
“Last time I think India played the Netherlands was in the 50-over World Cup in 2003 and then in 2011. So the good thing is India made the finals on both the occasions and hopefully it turns out to be the same this year as well,” said Jaffer on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker'.
KL Rahul’s lean patch continues in T20 World Cup
KL Rahul has the quality to change the complexion of any match at any point. He is considered to be a runaway match-winner but his recent form with the bat is a matter of concern for the Indian team. After a poor outing against Pakistan, Wasim Jaffer was hopeful to see KL Rahul return back in form but that definitely didn’t happen against the Netherlands.
The 30-year-old could only score nine runs off 12 balls and didn’t look settled at the crease. His dismissal was also quite intriguing as the player didn’t take a review after he was given LBW. Later on, it was revealed that the ball would have missed the leg stump but it was too late by then. For now, his lean patch continues but the cricketer can bounce back at any point and going ahead, team India would expect so.
