The Hundred Women's 2023: Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy ruled out with injuries

Australia's Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy have been ruled out of The Hundred Women's 2023 owing to injuries. The 100-ball cricket competition is set to be contested from August 1 to 27.

Perry, who was set to captain Birmingham Phoenix, needs around six weeks of recovery, having suffered a knee injury during the three-match ODI series between Australia and Ireland. A replacement for the Aussie all-rounder is yet to be announced. 

Healy, on the other hand, battled her way through the Women’s Ashes with a fractured left index and right ring finger. During the second ODI against Ireland, Australia's stand-in skipper suffered another fracture to her left index finger. The 33-year-old will be replaced at Northern Superchargers in The Hundred by Phoebe Litchfield, who will be making her debut in the tournament.

Additionally, both Perry and Healy have been ruled out of the ongoing third and final ODI against Ireland at the Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin. In Healy’s absence, Tahlia McGrath took over as captain for Australia's final ODI. The tourists will seek to clinch the series after winning the second ODI by 153 runs after the first was called off.

Heather Graham replaces Jemimah Rodrigues in The Hundred

Australia's Heather Graham also pulled out of The Hundred earlier this week owing to a calf injury and will be replaced by Jemimah Rodrigues at Northern Superchargers. The India all-rounder expressed excitement after being given another opportunity to compete in the 100-ball competition.

"I'm so excited to be back in The Hundred. It's a world-class competition and I've had so much fun taking part in it previously. Headingley is a brilliant ground to play at, with great fans, and I can't wait to be back out there,” Rodrigues was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

In addition, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has also announced several other player changes in the men's tournament, including replacements for Rashid Khan, Shadab Khan and Heinrich Klaasen, who all will leave during the tournament due to international assignments. Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell of Australia will also skip the competition.
