Former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar opined on India's struggling middle-order that is an area of concern again for Rohit Sharma’s men. With two defeats in the previous two games in the Super 4s of Asia Cup 2022, India have been far from performing to their calibre. After Pakistan’s victory against Afghanistan, India have now been eliminated from the tournament.

While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been doing the bulk of the scoring, the middle order of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant have been relatively inconsistent. Things got worse once Ravindra Jadeja got ruled out, and hence, this is one of the issues that head coach Rahul Dravid will be looking to sort out ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Try to find out the right combinations: Rohan Gavaskar

Gavaskar feels that the woes in the middle order is a headache after the surprising exit for India and noted that the experts and fans have also been weighing on the issue for a while now. He highlighted the vulnerability in the middle order and hoped for some more consistency.

“That is a headache. That is something that the Indian team will have to think about and try to find out the right combination over there. Look, that’s an area where we have seen a lot of experts, fans and knowledgeable people on cricket talk about and say something has to be done over there,” Speaking exclusively on SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’, Rohan Gavaskar told about the Indian middle order.

“The middle order is looking a little fragile at the moment and we need a bit more consistency come out of that slot (3-4-5-6). We need a little bit more consistency coming out of those areas. So, that’s something that the Indian team management will be thinking about and looking to improve on,” he added.
