Former Andhra cricketer Vincent Vinay Kumar has been named as the new assistant coach of the USA men’s team. The 54-year-old will be assisting Stuart Law on the upcoming tour to the Netherlands and speaking about that, Kumar stated that he is elated and is ready to help USA cricket grow.
The Monank Patel-led side had an exceptional T20 World Cup 2024, in which, USA defeated Pakistan and qualified for the Super Eights. Kumar mentioned that the team has improved significantly and has the capability to beat other quality teams in the future. Talking about his role, Kumar stated he will work to instil the right mindset in players so that they win against big teams in the future and be more consistent.
“I feel elated to get this opportunity to be a part of the coaching staff along with Stuart Law for the US team. It will be different because the US team after the World Cup had shown signs of proving they can beat good sides,” said the 54-year-old Vincent, who was earlier a batting consultant of the USA when they trained in Bengaluru ahead of the 2023 ICC World Cup qualifier play-offs in Namibia.
“I will be playing a good part to ensure their mindset is right to believe they can repeat beating big sides and be more consistent in performing at this stage,” Vincent told Sportstar.
Kumar also added that cricket is developing in the USA as more matches have been scheduled across various age groups. Major League Cricket (MLC) has a major role to play in that and it is expected to grow further in the future. He also revealed that the governing body is also planning to increase the number of matches of the senior men’s team.
“Cricket in the US is improving as there are more matches scheduled for all age groups and they are playing more series of matches in the senior level,” he said.
