Rohit Sharma has been in the news for quite some time after he stepped down as the Mumbai Indians captain. He has always remains calm during his public appearances and people admire his laid-back approach. He was recently featured in The Great Indian Kapil Show, and the episode got huge traction as the Hitman along with Shreyas Iyer shared many anecdotes.

The host of the show, Kapil Sharma, during a ‘Pol Khol’ segment asked Rohit about the players who give reasons after dropping catches. The India Captain replied in a jovial manner and revealed that the players come up with silly excuses after committing blunders. He further stated that the common excuse he gets is regarding the sunlight. Carrying his witty nature to a further extent, he said that these arguments arrive despite they have sunglasses with them on the field.

“Everyone makes excuses because we've been playing cricket since childhood. There's always sunlight on the field. Because of the sun, wearing sunglasses is necessary. Some give the excuse that they missed because of the sunlight,” said Rohit.

“They wear sunglasses on the top of the cap. I don't understand that. As a captain, I know how painful it is when someone comes and gives you excuses like that. I put myself in that situation when I did it once or twice. It's just common sense. Now even Iyer can tell you how many times he's done it,” he added.

You always have to give a reason to save yourself: Iyer

Iyer who was accompanying him on the show had a different take on the jibe taken by the India opener. When he was queried about the substance behind the reasons, he added that players conjure such reasons to save themselves from further collateral damage on the field by the captain.

“You always have to give a reason to save yourself. But then, as you listen on the mic, you have to reason out to save yourself from all those things,” said Iyer.
