Day 5 of the World Test Championship final (WTC) 2023 ended in heartbreak for team India as they fell under the relentless pressure of Australia’s bowling attack. Looking to chase down 280 runs before the start of the day’s play, India had pressure mounted on them early following Virat Kohli’s dismissal.

The rest of the batting lineup could not add much. Ajinkya Rahane, Srikar Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur were unable to propel India to a historic win in the WTC final.

Furthermore, after the heartbreaking loss, skipper Rohit Sharma came forward to ponder the possibility of a three-match WTC final. The 36-year-old opined that in such a big series, both teams should be given a fair opportunity. He also stated that after working hard throughout the cycle, just getting one shot at the title does not seem appropriate.

"I would love that, but is there a time? That’s the big question. But honestly, in a big event like this, you need to give fair opportunities to both teams. A three-match series would be nice, but it’s about finding that window where it can fit in. but I would love to have it (more games) in an event like this," Rohit Sharma said in the post-match press conference.

"You work for 2 years and you have only one shot for it. You can’t really get into that momentum. Test cricket is all about finding that momentum. So in the next cycle, if it is possible, a three-match series would be ideal," he added.

Can be played anywhere in the world: Sharma

Furthermore, the Indian skipper also opined that June should not only be the month when the WTC final should be played, he also stated that the venue for the ultimate Test match can vary as well, and it can be hosted elsewhere as well, apart from England.

"June isn't the only month we should play the WTC Final. It can be played anywhere in the world and not just England," Rohit Sharma said.
