Travis Head ready to prove himself on sub-continent pitches, looks forward to upcoming India tour

Even though Travis Head averages more than 45 in Test cricket, the Australia batter is yet to prove himself on the sub-continent pitches. Against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in 2022, the cricketer failed massively as he managed the highest score of only 26 runs in the seven innings he played against the two teams. 

Now, with the selection of Peter Handscomb and Matt Renshaw in the 18-man squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Head will be under tremendous pressure to do well in order to feature in all the matches. He nevertheless is adamant to do well and stated that he will not be changing his technique but rather will try to be more positive in order to do well in the away series.

“I feel like not much needs to change (with my technique). I think maybe I need to be a little bit more positive when I’m at the crease because I’m definitely at my best when I’m more positive. It’s been such a small sample size for me in Asia,” Head said as quoted by news.com.au.

With the Kangaroos not playing a single practice match before the much-awaited series, it will be tough for the cricketers to get adjusted to the situation. Head, however, is confident that he can turn things around following a good performance against Pakistan in the white-ball series.

He stated to be working on a few things for Test cricket in India and also mentioned to be using the practice sessions well enough to crack into the squad.

“I have been working on a few things (for India) which have worked for me well in the white-ball format. That’s given me a lot of confidence to go out and play the way that I want to play."

Hopefully, I can translate that into a bit of red-ball (cricket) and I believe I’m only a couple of hits away from turning it around. We’ve got seven or eight days when we get to India to prepare (for the first Test) and crack into it,” Head added.
