Two bouncers in an over is good initiative: Trent Boult

Currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024, Trent Boult is gearing up for a busy summer featuring the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and Major League Cricket later in the year.

The left-arm seamer has transitioned into a freelance career after being released from his New Zealand central contract. He is using the opportunity to spend more time with his family while continuing to pursue his passion for the game.

Boult's performance in the ongoing IPL season has been decent, and claiming seven wickets in seven games, he has played a crucial role in placing RR at the top of the points table with 12 points.

Boult, known for his ability to extract movement off the pitch, believes that the newly inducted two-bouncer rule provides bowlers with an additional weapon while running in toward the batter, especially in the age of small grounds and flat pitches.

"Two bounces in an over is a good initiative. The grounds are pretty small. The balls aren’t moving around as much as they have in previous times, and it just gives the bowlers another card up their sleeve to try to be that little bit more unpredictable. So I’m sure it will have a good effect throughout the tournament," Boult said in a recent interview withSportstar.

The Impact Player rule has also been initiated in the cash-rich league from last season, and speaking about it, he acknowledged the fact that the new rule does make a huge difference. 

"I think it has made a huge difference. It has allowed teams to equip batters that can bat down to No. 10. It shows in the scores. I think the boundary counts are higher than they have ever been, and we have already seen a couple of 250-plus scores," he added.

"I think it’s skewed massively because there’s the data that has been there over years with standard 11 players, and now you can slightly manipulate that with the balance of the sides," he further added.

The table-toppers are gearing up to face Mumbai Indians in their next match at their home ground in Jaipur on 22nd April.
