The stage is all set for the final of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Team India will be facing South Africa in the summit clash of the tournament at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, June 29 for a shot at glory and the title.
As the clash approaches, India will be feeling quite confident about every aspect of their game but one, and that is the form of ace batter Virat Kohli. The veteran opened the innings for India in the T20 World Cup and has been unable to make a difference with the bat.
Seeing his form, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif came forward and backed Kohli to go big in the final. Kaif compared Kohli’s campaign to that of MS Dhoni’s in the 2011 ODI World Cup, where Dhoni, who was out of form the entire tournament, played a brilliant knock in the final.
"Virat Kohli needs to remember that even Dhoni didn't have a great World Cup in 2011, but he found form in the final. Small suggestion: He is too good a player to slog, he can play ball on merit and dominate any bowline attack,” Kaif was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.
“Mahendra Singh Dhoni was out of form in the 2011 ODI World Cup. He played an unbeaten 91-run knock in the final. His six over long on off Kulasekara is etched in everybody's mind. That's why I think Virat Kohli has a great chance to become a hero,” he added.
He must forget that he is in poor form: Kaif
Furthermore, Kaif stated that Kohli should forget that he has been in poor form in the tournament, and should even take inspiration from his knock against South Africa in the ODI World Cup, where he scored his 49th ODI ton.
"He must forget that he is in poor form. He had hit a century when India last played South Africa in the ODI World Cup at Eden Gardens. He was brilliant that day and played very well, but he wasn't slogging that day but was playing the ball on merit with proper cricket shots,” Kaif said.
