Star India batter Virat Kohli is set to feature in his 500th international game when Rohit Sharma-led side take on West Indies in the second Test, at the Queen's Park Oval, in Trinidad, starting on July 20. The tourists seek a win to whitewash the series after winning the first Test at Dominica by an innings and 141 runs.
Ahead of the match, former India opener Aakash Chopra was full of praise for Kohli for the discipline, dedication, and devotion he has displayed throughout his famed career.
"This is Kohli's 500th international game. Why is Kohli's 500th game important? What does Kohli define or represent? Kohli represents a lot of discipline, dedication and devotion, the way he has played this game. The three Ds are standing tall and it is for everyone to see," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Chopra went on to praise the former India captain, saying the 34-year-old batter seems he will give his everything, whenever he steps onto the field and never takes things for granted. Moreover, his attitude while competing has remained top-notch over the years.
"Whenever he steps on the ground, it seems like he is going to give his 100%. There is not even one thing where he will leave a stone unturned. He doesn't do even one job where you feel that he is taking things slightly lightly," he added.
Kohli has adjusted his game based on the team's requirements: Chopra
Aakash Chopra further lauded Virat Kohli for always playing as per what the situation demands. The 45-year-old also mentioned that he hit his first boundary after facing 80 balls in the Dominica Test which demonstrated that he doesn't have any ego. The former cricketer also said that he hoped that Kohli would hit a century in his 500th game.
"Right from the start, he has adjusted his game based on the team's requirements, the situation's demand and what the pitch is saying. He showed that in Dominica as well, he hit his first four after 80 balls. It means he doesn't have any ego. That defines him, that actually tells us who he is.
"So we firstly wish him all the best from the entire family. From the bottom of our hearts, we want him to score a century because it's been half a decade and he hasn't scored a century away from home but it doesn't matter even if it doesn't come. It doesn't make him a lesser player," Chopra concluded.
