Legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli's nephew Aryaveer is all set to carry forward the cricketing legacy. While the former Indian captain has announced his retirement from T20Is and Tests, his nephew is set to make his mark as a leg-spinner in the upcoming season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL).

Aryaveer, son of Virat’s elder brother Vikas, was picked up by the South Delhi Superstarz (SDS) for INR one lakh at the DPL 2025 auction. The 15-year-old has trained under the former India cricketer and current SDS coach, Sarandeep Singh. The coach revealed that the youngster is a promising cricketer and has no baggage of his surname.

“Aryaveer Kohli is a rising star. He’s quite young. There’s no baggage of the surname on the young lad. He’s a really good and talented kid. He’s been practising and putting in the hard work," Sarandeep said as quoted by News18.

Aryaveer trains at West Delhi Cricket Academy

Unlike his famous uncle, Aryaveer is not a batter but a leg-spinner. He has honed his skills at the West Delhi Cricket Academy, where the veteran cricketer also trained under coach Raj Kumar Sharma. His addition to the South Delhi Superstarz will see him share the dressing room with IPL star spinner Digvesh Rathi, one of DPL’s highest-paid players (INR 38 lakh). The squad also consists of players like Rathi and Priyansh Arya.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old is currently spending time with his wife and kids in London and is available only for ODIs. His return to Indian colours was expected during the now-postponed Bangladesh series in August. However, according to reports, there is a potential short white-ball series with Sri Lanka during a similar phase. Notably, Virat was recently seen attending Wimbledon with his wife, Anushka Sharma, to watch the Men’s Round of 16 clash between tennis great Novak Djokovic and Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
