Sandeep Sharma showed nerves of steel in the last-ball thriller against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings which led to Rajasthan Royals winning by mere three runs on Wednesday, April 12. Following the epic encounter between the two sides, the 29-year-old pacer revealed what his plan was to counter rival skipper MS Dhoni in the final over.

The nerve-wracking contest saw both teams take control of the match on certain occasions which eventually led to the match going down to the wire. After RR got the breakthroughs at regular intervals, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and skipper Dhoni steered the side to a potential win with their explosive hitting.

21 runs were required off six balls and pacer Sandeep was against arguably one of the greatest finishers of all-time, Dhoni. The RR pacer bowled two consecutive wides and followed it with a dot to complete the first ball.

However, the 41-year-old CSK batter, hammered two maximums on the trot to keep his side steady in the chase. Sandeep bowled his third delivery outside off upon which the rival skipper could manage to get a single. A pin-pointed yorker off the penultimate ball against Jadeja saw Dhoni regain the strike for the thrilling final ball.

Five to win off one ball, Sandeep proved his mettle as he nailed the yorker which led to Rajasthan’s victory in the thrilling affair. During the post-match presentation, the pacer revealed his game plan for the final over against Dhoni.

“I wanted to deliver yorkers in the last over. I was bowling good yorkers in the nets. The leg-side was big, but I missed my mark and bowled a couple of low full-tosses and both went for sixes. Then I changed my angle and it worked. I bowled over the wicket to Jadeja and I wanted to keep it away from his reach,” told Sandeep.

Rajasthan Royals are slated to play defending champions Gujarat Titans on Sunday, April 16 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Sanju Samson and Co. will look to maintain their fine run and stay atop the points table with another win in Sunday’s blockbuster clash.
