Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir could not hold back his laughter when Rishabh Pant playfully brought up Rohit Sharma during an episode of The Great India Kapil Show. The light-hearted moment came during a segment when Pant jokingly referred to Rohit as someone who "calls all the shots" in the team, even if it is just by virtue of seniority.

Pant was asked, "Who is that one Jethani in the team who orders everyone around and acts bossy?" The wicketkeeper-batter responded with a smile, “Rohit bhai is like that. Rohit bhai comes on strong.” The comment left the audience in splits, and Gambhir quickly chipped in, “Ab toh retire ho gaya. Haan haan, lo le lo naam ab.” (“Now that he’s retired, go ahead and take his name!”), sending everyone, including Yuzvendra Chahal and Abhishek Sharma, into laughter.

Rohit, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, has been one of the key figures in India’s red-ball setup. Although he had expressed excitement about the England tour in an earlier interview with Michael Clarke, his unexpected announcement took fans by surprise. His decision followed a disappointing run with the bat and questions surrounding his captaincy during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Currently, India is touring England for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, with Shubman Gill leading the side and Pant serving as vice-captain. Rohit, meanwhile, is enjoying a vacation in Italy with his family, wife Ritika Sajdeh, daughter Samaira, and son Ahaan, sharing photos of scenic spots and historic monuments on social media.

Rohit was scheduled to return to international cricket in August for India’s ODI tour of Bangladesh, but the series has since been cancelled. Unless the BCCI schedules another limited-overs series in the same window, Rohit is expected to return to action only in October.

Captain led from the front with a stellar 269-run knock. while England’s Jamie Smith and Harry Brook scored centuries to bring the hosts back into the contest. However, it was Mohammed Siraj who turned the tide with a six-wicket haul, helping India get a 180-run lead after dismissing England for 407.
