The victory marked Pakistan’s third defeat against India in the 2025 edition of the continental tournament and was largely powered by an outstanding performance from Tilak Varma.
The left-handed batter stole the show with a brilliant display of composure and aggression. Tilak scored an unbeaten 69 runs from 53 balls, including a crucial six off the final over bowled by Haris Rauf, which nearly sealed the match for India. With India needing just one run from three balls, Rinku Singh struck the winning runs, sending the Men in Blue to a well-deserved triumph. Earlier in the match, India’s bowling attack had put Pakistan under pressure. The Men in Blue bowled Pakistan out for 146 runs, with Kuldeep Yadav emerging as the star, claiming four wickets for 30 runs. Varun Chakravarthy (2/30), Jasprit Bumrah (2/25), and Axar Patel (2/26) complemented Kuldeep’s effort, ensuring that Pakistan’s middle and lower order failed to make an impact despite a strong start.
For Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan top-scored with 57 off 38, including five boundaries and three sixes, while Fakhar Zaman contributed 46. However, the rest of the batting lineup faltered and collapsed cheaply.
Pakistan tried to slow down India’s chase by dismissing the top-order batters early. Despite this, India managed to steady the innings through Tilak’s heroic knock, with crucial support from Sanju Samson, who scored 24, and Shivam Dube, who added 33 runs. Faheem Ashraf was Pakistan’s most successful bowler in the match, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 29 runs in his four overs.
In the end, India’s balanced performance with both bat and ball ensured a memorable victory over their arch-rivals. The win not only crowned India as Asia Cup champions once again but also provided a timely boost ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
