New Zealand and the Netherlands are locking horns in Match 6 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and once again elected to bowl first. The decision wasn’t vindicated by the bowlers as New Zealand posted a massive score of 322/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Will Young (70 off 80), Rachin Ravindra (51 off 51) and Tom Latham (53 off 46) all scored half-centuries.

During the first innings, a hilarious moment was also witnessed as Paul van Meekeren thanked Daryl Mitchell for not hitting him during the 39th over of the innings. On the second ball of the over, Mitchell hit Van Meekeren straight down the ground but the ball ended up hitting the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

The ball was almost about to hit the Dutch bowler but he got out of the line at the very last moment. After he successfully evaded the bowl, Van Meekeren was spotted bowing down to Mitchell with his hands joined to thank the Kiwi batter for not hitting him.

Following the incident, the right-arm seamer dismissed the Kiwi batter in his very next over as he destroyed his stumps. Mitchell departed after scoring 48 (47) with the help of five fours and two sixes. After his dismissal, Mitchell Santer gave a late flourish to his side with his excellent cameo of 36* (17) with the help of three fours and two sixes.

In the second innings, the Netherlands didn’t get off to a good start as they were reduced to 67/3 after 16.4 overs. Colin Ackerman played a brilliant knock of 69 (73) to keep the innings going. However, he failed to get support from the other end and the Netherlands were dismissed for 223 in 46.3 overs. Santner starred with the ball as well by picking up 5/59 in ten overs and was also awarded Player of the Match.
