Madhevere consumed nine deliveries to score only one run.

Wessly Madhevere's innings in the opening game against South Africa during the Zimbabwe Tri-Series came to an unusual end after he stepped onto the stumps in an attempt to flick the ball off his pads. It seemed as if the lack of balance while executing the shot meant his back foot went too far into the crease before treading onto the stumps. Playing in his 77th T20I, Madhevere had to head back after scoring only one run off nine deliveries.
He could just never get going and adapt according to the behaviour of the ball off the pitch, particular against Lungi Ngidi who ended up claiming a freak dismissal to his name. The 24-year-old all-rounder could not believe what had gone down while walking off. Ngidi, on the other hand, was all smiles, due to having something to show for his tidy start to the innings.

Speaking of the match, Zimbabwe ended up getting comprehensively defeated by five wickets and 25 deliveries to spare. Being asked to bat first, all they could manage was 141/6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Skipper Sikandar Raza top-scored with an unbeaten 38-ball 54. The seasoned all-rounder's innings comprised three fours and two sixes. For the South Africans, Ngidi ended up with economical figures of 1/15 in four overs.

The Proteas were off to a shaky start. They had lost three wickets inside the powerplay. International debutant Rubin Hermann combined brilliantly with Dewald Brevis to stitch together a 72-run partnership off just 37 deliveries. Corbin Bosch (23* off 15) and George Linde (3*) were the unbeaten batters at the end. Despite Linde's 3/10 in the first innings, Brevis was awarded the Player of the Match accolade for his power-hitting knock.
The Proteas will be seen facing New Zealand next in the second fixture of the Tri-Nation Series, and would be hoping to add another win to their kitty to ease their chances of making it to the finals of the all-important series in their neighbouring land.
