‘We are building our story’ - Monty Desai wants Nepal to ‘put up a show’ against Bangladesh

Nepal were on the verge of pulling off an upset against South Africa but fell just one run short in the end. The Rohit Paudel-led side has played some good cricket in the ongoing T20 World Cup but unfortunately, failed to find any success, losing two while the other match was called off due to rain. Nepal head coach Monty Desai, however, is determined to finish the tournament on a high note and expects the team to put up a show in their final group game against Bangladesh.

Ahead of the match on June 17, Desai stated that Nepal are building their story and will give their all in the match against Bangladesh to register a win in the World Cup. Notably, if Bangladesh lose, their Super 8 spot can be in jeopardy but Nepal aren’t interested in spoiling their party but wants to build their own story.

“We are building our story, so I am not thinking about spoiling anyone else's party. The message in the dressing room was that we still want to live in a world of imagination, where we want to believe that we crossed the line (on Friday). We want to think that we are on three points, looking forward to Bangladesh and playing to qualify for Super Eight,” Desai said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“If you can bring that mentality and fight till the end, and cross the line, at least we will go back with a proud moment of winning, and then probably think about the ifs and buts of other games. But yes, we want to put up a show,” he added.

Desai pointed out that mental strength is extremely vital for associate nations like Nepal. He added that the process is everything and against Bangladesh, they would do the same thing and aim to play better and pick up the win.

“This is exactly where the mental strength will be tested for a young Associate team like Nepal. Twenty-four hours from now we will be planning, discussing and moving towards the stadium to play against Bangladesh. It is very important to remember the processes that have helped us so far,” Desai added.
