Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma’s form is a major point of discussion in the ongoing IPL 2023. The 36-year-old hasn't managed to score anything significant in the last three matches and that is not just a poor sign for the franchise but also for the Indian team, as they are slated to take on Australia in the World Test Championship finale in less than a month’s time.

Meanwhile, talking about his form, former New Zealand international Simon Doull mentioned that the team management should back the cricketer nevertheless just like how Chennai Super Kings did with Shane Watson back in 2018. However, he remains to be confused regarding the future of Rohit Sharma once Tilak Varma regains his fitness, as it will be tough for the five-time champions to drop Nehal Wadhera after his back-to-back half-centuries in the tournament.

“When a team keeps winning without a player scoring runs, they can still continue to trust that player. This is what CSK did with Watson (in 2018). They carried him through the tournament and he repaid the faith in the final. Loved the way Ishan went about hitting in the powerplay. But it's just not working for Rohit. Now what happens if Tilak Varma is fit? You can't drop Nehal Wadhera now,” Doull said while talking to Cricbuzz.

The last four-five games that Suryakumar Yadav has had have been just unbelievable: Doull

Flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav wreaked havoc, scoring 83 runs off just 35 deliveries, which helped Mumbai beat Bangalore by six wickets and move to number three in the IPL points table. Overall, the Mumbai-born cricketer has smashed 376 runs in 11 matches and has been a force to reckon with in the last four-five matches. Doull acknowledged the same and lauded him for his incredible performance against RCB.

“It has been a season of two halves for him (SKY). The last four-five games that he has had have been just unbelievable. All the sixes were great, but the way he waited on a slower delivery outside off stump and timed it through point, shows that he has the game to wait, assess and still play the shot,” Doull mentioned.
