In a nail-biting encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Gujarat Titans (GT) handed Rajasthan Royals (RR) their first defeat of the 17th edition of IPL. GT successfully chased down a daunting target of 197 runs, pulling off a win off the final ball of the match.

RR had been in excellent form, winning their first four matches of the season. They posted a challenging total of 196/3 in their 20 overs, thanks to impressive knocks from Sanju Samson (68* off 38) and Riyan Parag (76 off 48). However, GT's batting lineup, led by Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan, rose to the occasion and helped the team register a three-wicket win.

Targeting 45 in three overs and that is very much gettable: Shubman Gill

After the match, veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle congratulated Gill on GT's third win but suggested that his side had left it too late to get the job done.

"Well done, you got 2 points tonight. I must admit some of us thought you left it too late, but well done today," Bhogle told Gill during a post-match interview. However, Gill's response was a clear warning to GT's rivals: "Thank you. When we are playing, don't think like that."

The GT skipper also acknowledged that the team was targeting 45 runs in the final three overs, a task that they were confident to achieve. This mindset, coupled with the exceptional performances of Tewatia (22 off 11) and Rashid Khan (24* off 11), allowed GT to pull off a remarkable victory.

"We were targeting 45 in three overs and that is very much gettable, and that was the mindset. Mathematically, it is like both batters need to score 9-ball 22 runs or so and if one of the batters goes berserk, it will get over two-three balls prior," Gill added.

Talking about his dismissal and brilliant finishing by Rashid-Tewatia, "I would have loved to finish the game but very happy with the way Rashid bhai and Rahul bhai finished the game. Last game also, we dominated more than 50 percent but our bad phases were very bad. Winning the game off the last ball is a wonderful feeling. He (Rashid) is such a fantastic player, someone you always want in your team," Gill concluded.

GT now find themselves in the sixth position in the points table with six points and will face Delhi Capitals in their next game at home on April 17th.
