The second ODI between the West Indies and India saw the visitors suffer their first loss of the ongoing multi-format series. After dominating the West Indies in the first ODI, team India rested their key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and that is where the West Indies looked to overpower them.

After Ishan Kishan’s gritty half-century in the top-order, none of the other batters were able to add much, as the visitors were bundled out for 181 runs in the first innings. Coming out to chase the target, Shai Hope and Keacy Carty’s brilliant knocks helped the side chase the target down and win the game by six wickets.

Talking Points from the 2nd ODI between West Indies and India:

Ishan Kishan’s continued form:

Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan has been making quite a name for himself. After making his Test debut recently, the 25-year-old has been doing wonders in ODI cricket ahead of the World Cup as well. Kishan amassed 52 runs in 46 deliveries in the first ODI and followed it up with another half-century, scoring 55 runs in just as many deliveries in the second ODI as well. With the World Cup right around the corner, his performance could go a long way for him.

Shai Hope’s resilience

After a disappointing showing in the first ODI, the West Indies showed resilience and determination in the second game. Limiting India to a low total in the first innings, the hosts put forth an excellent batting performance to win the second game, and skipper Shai Hope played a major role in the win. After the top-order failed to perform during the run chase, Hope came forward and stepped up to the occasion. Scoring 63* runs in 80 deliveries, Hope’s knock helped the Windies win the second ODI.

Losing skipper Hardik Pandya said:

We didn't bat the way we were supposed to. The wicket was better than it was in the first game. Everyone barring Shubman hit fielders and got out. Disappointing but many things to learn. The way our openers batted, especially Ishan, struck it well and is good for India. Shardul got us back in with his bowling. Hope and Carty batted well and got them through. Body's fine. I have to bowl more overs and get my workload up for the World Cup. I'm a turtle right now not the rabbit and hoping everything goes right as the World Cup comes on. To be honest, you want to be going 1-1 to the third game as it'll be more challenging and exciting.

Winning skipper and Player of the Match Shai Hope said:

I'm happy as long as my contributions lead to the win. When things are difficult, you gotta find ways to score quickly. So you gotta run hard, we got twos which helped. Very satisfied, the aim was to get back to the series. We gotta win one more and need to come back strongly. We gotta put in the effort and today we displayed the right attitude, need to replicate that in all disciplines. It was a complete performance. We want to tick the boxes and get the right result in the final game.
