The young Women in Blue led by the skipper, Shafali Verma, decimated England in the final by seven wickets. Courtesy of some brilliant bowling by the Indian bowlers, England U19 women were bundled out for a paltry 68 runs in 17.1 overs. Titas Sadhu started the proceedings by taking Liberty Heap’s wicket in the very first over. England couldn’t recover from that and went on to lose wickets at regular intervals. Sadhu, along with Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra scalped two wickets each while Shafali, Sonam Yadav and Mannat Kashyap picked up a wicket each.
India didn’t find any hurdles in an easy chase of 69 runs and achieved the target in 14 overs losing three wickets. Soumya Tiwari remained unbeaten on 24 off 37 balls scoring three boundaries, along with scoring the winning run for India.
Titas Sadhu won the Player of the Match award for her brilliant spell of four overs in which she conceded just six runs. Meanwhile England’s Grace Scrivens was awarded the Player of the Tournament award.
“The way all the girls are performing and backing each other, so happy. Incredible feeling. Thanks to the staff, the way they have been backing us everyday and telling us that we are here for the cup and because of them we are here. All thanks to them. The players have been backing me a lot. Thanks to BCCI for giving me this beautiful team and really happy for winning the cup,“ said the Indian skipper at the post-match presentation.
This is Indian Women’s first-ever win at any major ICC event and came with the girls who are the future of Indian Women’s Cricket.
