Women's World Cup 2025: Alyssa Healy out of England clash due to minor calf strain

In a major blow to Australia Women, their skipper Alyssa Healy will not be taking part in the upcoming encounter against England Women in the Match No. 23 of the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2025, to be held at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Wednesday, October 22. Healy was ruled out of this contest due to a minor calf strain she underwent during a recent training session.

In her absence, vice-captain Tahlia McGrath will be stepping in to lead the side, whereas, Healy will continue to be monitored for her participation in further stages of the tournament. Australia will be playing their last league stage game against the South Africans at the same venue before travelling out for the semi-finals.

"The 35-year-old will miss at least the game against England at Indore's Holkar Stadium, and will continue to be assessed ahead of Australia's final round game against South Africa three days later on Saturday. Tahlia McGrath will captain the side in her absence," Cricket Australia said in a statement on Tuesday, October 21.

The Australians have already booked their slot in the semi-finals, courtesy of their undefeated run in the global event thus far. Their opposition for Wednesday, England, are also enjoying an unbeaten streak over the five games played and they too have made it to the semi-finals already. One of the teams will lose their first league stage match of the tournament in Indore unless rain plays spoilsport.

Speaking of skipper Healy, she has been in a terrific form with the bat, being the top run-getters of the tournament so far. Her match-defining knock against India Women was her first century, which she followed up with another hundred against the Nigar Sultana-led Bangladeshi side. The star wicketkeeper-batter currently has 294 runs from four innings, at an astonishing average of 98.00.
