The Indian squad has been announced for the upcoming England series, which will be taking place in June. One of the biggest topics of discussion is the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah, who will be one of the key bowlers for the Indian team going into the five-match series.

The reports suggested that Bumrah was one of the frontrunners to lead the team in England, but due to the issues of his fitness and workload, the 31-year-old pacer had said that his body might not take the load of five Test matches, which had led the management to pick Shubman Gill to lead the team. Bumrah has openly talked about his struggle with fitness on Michael Clarke’s podcast ‘Beyond 23’. The 2024 T20 World Cup champion has brought up the challenges of understanding his body and what is his mentality while trying to deal with his workload.

“Obviously, it is tough for any individual to keep playing everything for so long. I’ve been doing it for a while, but eventually you have to understand where your body is going, what is the important tournament. You have to be a little selective and smart about how you use your body. As a cricketer, I would never want to leave anything and always keep on going. But I don’t set goals or look at numbers. Whenever I have (set goals), I’ve never been able to fulfil them,” Bumrah said during the podcast.

“I just try and enjoy because that’s why I started this sport. Take one day at a time and collect memories because, at the end of the sport, that’s all I’ll remember,” the India pace-bowling star added.

Family is more important than my career: Jasprit Bumrah

The other thing Bumrah opened up about is his priorities, where he openly revealed that he prioritises his family over his career. Bumrah has claimed that it is important to give priority to them since he will not be a cricketer for the rest of his life, and his family will be constant throughout.

“For me, family is more important than my career because you know that is constant. There are two things that I take seriously. One is my family, and one is my game, but family comes first,” the former India Test skipper claimed.

“I have to give priority, and I do give priority because I will not be a cricketer all the time. For them, I’m not a cricketer. I’m a human being, and you know, being a young father, seeing my son, you know, he started picking up the ball and started playing with the ball, which is not advisable at this moment,” he added.
