"Mistakes are allowed as they are part of sports and will always be. But most importantly, one should try to learn from his mistakes," Hussain said.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has urged England to acknowledge their errors and take some valuable lessons in the ongoing Ashes series at home. England squandered away the advantage in the first innings of the second Test at Lord's and conceded a substantial lead of 91 runs.

The English batters' decision to take on Australia's short-ball strategy did not work as the hosts kept falling in the trap and lost their last six wickets for a mere 47 runs, allowing Australia to extend their lead to 221 runs by the end of Day 3.

"Mistakes are allowed as they are part of sports and will always be. But most importantly, one should try to learn from his mistakes. England's mistakes in this case involved going for balls they should have avoided, resulting in the loss of four wickets and potentially jeopardizing the entire game," Hussain told Sky Sports.

Hussain further warned that if England continue making such errors in the name of their "playing style", then they could end up losing the Lord's Test as well.

"By disregarding these flaws, they open themselves up to scrutiny and doubt. They must block out external noise but remain receptive to constructive criticism. Rectify the mistakes made in the first innings, or else if they insist on saying, 'That's just how we play,' they will soon find themselves trailing 0-2. Learn from the past and strive for improvement in the next innings," he said.

Hussain expressed that the damage had already been done on Day 2, highlighting England's flawed approach after tea. Notably, the hosts were in a commanding position at 188/1 but squandered the advantage by succumbing to Australia's short-ball tactic.

England's best chance of securing victory in the Test lies in swiftly bowling out the Australian team on Day 4 and then demonstrating confidence in their ability to chase the target which is not going to be an easy task, he added.
