‘They need a white ball trophy’ - Yuvraj Singh picks his four semi-finalists for ODI World Cup

The ODI World Cup 2023 is right around the corner, and with the marquee event all set to begin on October 5, the fans will lie in wait to see which side goes all the way and lifts the coveted title. Over the past few weeks, many former and current stars have taken centre stage to give their take on who the four semi-finalists could be for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh joined the fray as well. The former star came forward and named his four semi-finalists for the World Cup. In a surprise pick, Yuvraj Singh named South Africa as one of his picks for the semi-finalists. Apart from the Proteas, Yuvraj picked four other teams, namely, India, Australia, New Zealand, and England.

"Obviously India, Australia will be there (Semifinals). I will pick five teams as there's always an upset in the World Cup. India, Australia, New Zealand, England and I just feel South Africa is due. They need a white ball trophy,” Yuvraj Singh told The Week.

Furthermore, Yuvraj Singh was also asked his opinion about the current best all-rounders in world cricket. The 41-year-old named the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Ravindra Jadeja, but pointed out the prowess of English star Ben Stokes. Yuvraj Singh branded Stokes the best all-rounder in world cricket at the moment.

"There are a lot of all-rounders around. Mitchell Marsh, Ravindra Jadeja Ben Stokes is the No. 1 all-rounder at the moment. England have brought him back for the World Cup,” Yuvraj Singh said.

It is worth noting that Ben Stokes reversed his decision to retire from ODI cricket for the upcoming ODI World Cup. He announced his retirement in 2022 but will feature for England in the World Cup. His recent performances in white ball cricket suggest that he will be an impactful player for England as they aim to defend their World Cup title.
