After a magnificent T20I series, India and Sri Lanka will now square off in the first of the three ODIs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The senior players, who had been rested for the T20Is, will be back in action as India have a near-complete squad for the 50-over games. Rohit Sharma will be back as the skipper and both teams would be looking to start the series on a winning note.

India last played an ODI against Bangladesh last month. They lost the series 2-1, but won the last game of the series by a margin of 227 runs. Ishan Kishan was the standout performer as he notched up the fastest-ever ODI double century, registering his name in record books. Virat Kohli too put up a show and notched up his 72nd international century in that game.

Sri Lanka last played an ODI series in November, when they hosted Afghanistan for three games. They lost the first game of the series before heavy rains forced a washout at the Pallekele Stadium. The Islanders however bounced back to win the third and final game as the series ended in a 1-1 draw. They’d be looking to work on their mistakes and get off to a good start.

India and Sri Lanka last played an ODI match in July 2021, when a second-string Indian side toured the island nation under Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy. India won the series 2-1 as Sri Lanka spared themselves from a series whitewash by winning the third ODI. India have won eight out of their last ten fixtures against Sri Lanka and will be looking to continue their domination.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati is said to be supportive of the batters and the bowlers equally. The track has a tendency to act slow, and thus the spinners will be benefitted from the game. It is a big scoring venue and thus we can witness a score of around 350.

Probable Playing XI for IND vs SL 1st ODI

India

Though Suryakumar Yadav is in great form, India will likely go with the ODI specialists in the upcoming game. There are no injury concerns in the team, and hence India would be looking to field a strong XI with a futuristic aim of the World Cup.

Probable Playing XI- Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar/Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami

Sri Lanka

Having lost the T20I series, Sri Lanka would be aiming to pull off something similar to what they did against Australia last year. Skipper Dasun Shanaka is in great form with the bat, and would be hoping to continue the same momentum in the ODIs as well.
