India and Sri Lanka will be under pressure in the third and final match of the three-match series when they meet at the Saurashtra Cricket Academy in Rajkot on Saturday, January 7. The series is leveled at 1-1 as both teams have won a game each, and thus the upcoming game will be a decider. After India won the first game, Sri Lanka bounced back stronger and fought well to win the game.

In the previous game, Sri Lanka put up a 207-run target for India to chase, courtesy of skipper Dasun Shanaka’s unbeaten 56* which helped the visitors dominate the death overs. India’s start to the chase was terrible as the hosts lost four wickets within the powerplay, but Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav’s heroics kept India’s hopes alive. But the hosts eventually lost the game by 16 runs.

Kusal Mendis was in great touch in the previous game as he notched up a half-century. Suryakumar could not perform in the first game, but put up a notable show in the second T20I. For India, Axar Patel has been doing brilliant work with the bat and the ball. He has been scoring a chunk of runs for India, while also picking up wickets at regular intervals without conceding many runs.

The loss in the previous game was a first was Hardik Pandya as a skipper. Also, it was India’s first defeat against Sri Lanka in a T20I game at home since 2016. The upcoming contest will be an exciting one as the Men in Blue and the Asian champions will be at their best to win the series before heading into the 50-over games.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot has been typically helpful to the pacers as compared to the spinners. Batters get equal assistance here as the average first innings total is 179 runs in the four games played here.

Probable Playing XI for IND vs SL 3rd T20I

India

Arshdeep Singh proved to be very costly for India in the second T20I, but he is a proven match-winner and can be trusted. Rahul Tripathi did not have an ideal start to his T20I career, but would look to leave an impact in the upcoming game. India will likely continue with the same XI.

Probable Playing XI- Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Tripathi, Hardik Pandya (c), Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Sri Lanka

After losing the first contest, the Islanders put up a remarkable show to win the second game and level the series. The Sri Lankan side is in great form and would not want to lose their winning momentum. As a result, they’ll continue with the same combination.

Probable Playing XI: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka
