The action will continue in the Indian Premier League season 16 as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 17 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The two teams will lock horns against each other on Wednesday, April 12 and will be high on confidence having won their respective previous encounters.

The runner-ups of the 2022 edition, Rajasthan Royals, have had a good opening to the season as they’ve won two out of the first three matches. They’ve won both of their matches in emphatic fashion beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs in the opening match and hammering Delhi Capitals by 57 runs in their second game.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings started their IPL 2023 campaign with a loss against Gujarat Titans in the curtain raiser of the competition. However, they made a good comeback beating Lucknow Super Giants in their second encounter at their (CSK’s) home ground. The four-time champions further beat their nemesis Mumbai Indians in their third game by seven wickets.

One thing that has troubled CSK in their first two games is their bowling attack as they failed to defend 178 in the opening match and gave away 205 runs while defending 217 runs in their second game. The indiscipline of the bowlers even forced the ‘captain cool’ to talk about them in the post-match presentation. CSK’s bowlers will be once again put to test against the star-studded batting line-up of Rajasthan Royals and will have to bring their ‘A-game’ to the fore to beat them.

Pitch and Conditions

In the 68 matches played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in IPL, Teams batting first have won 42 matches. The highest team total scored at the venue is 246/5 by CSK against RR in 2010. The pitch has traditionally been conducive to spinners and they’re expected to play a pivotal role in the game. Captain winning the toss will ideally be looking to bat first and put the opposition under pressure with a huge total.

CSK suffered a major blow in the last game as Deepak Chahar was injured in the first over itself while Moeen Ali was benched due to illness. All-rounder Ben Stokes also missed out on the game due to an injury to his toe and is expected to be out for at least a week. Moeen Ali however is expected to be back for the next game.
