With the thrills and spills of the shortest format done and dusted, New Zealand and India will tussle in a three-match ODI series, commencing on November 25. The Kiwis failed to register even a single win in the recently concluded T20I series that was decided by the persistent rain in the country.
However, the hosts are unbeaten in their last four ODIs against the Men in Blue, who will be led by the stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan. They will look to extend their winning streak against a relatively weaker Indian line-up with several new fresh faces in the ranks, especially in the bowling department.
The series proposes to be an exciting affair as the hosts are the no.1 ranked ODI team in the world and will be tested by a touring Indian team, who are riding high after their triumph in the T20I series a few days ago.
Pitch Conditions
Much like the other venues in the country, Eden Park also hosts Rugby matches, making it a quick-scoring surface. The bowlers usually struggle to make an impact upfront, with the spinners having much more of a say as the game progresses. With rain around the corner, bowlers will also face the stiff task of gripping the wet ball.
Playing Combinations for NZ vs IND
New Zealand
Martin Guptill became the latest Kiwi cricketer to turn down a central contract as the Blackcaps are ushering into a new era under Kane Williamson. Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson will partner the veteran opening bowler Tim Southee in the absence of Trent Boult.
Predicted Playing XI: Tom Latham, Finn Allen, Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson
India
Although India clinched the T20I series against the Kiwis, the opening combination remains a concern for the visitors in the absence of senior players Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. But the in-form Shubman Gill is likely to calm those nerves as the 23-year-old is primed to take over the opening slot from the Indian skipper in the near future.
Predicted Playing XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik
