Because of their stronger T20I rankings, England and Afghanistan automatically qualified for the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and will face off against one another on Saturday, October 22, at Optus Park in Perth. England and Afghanistan are a part of the first group, which also includes Sri Lanka, hosts Australia, and New Zealand, and Ireland
England are the favorites to win this contest, but Afghanistan can not be taken lightly, given their performances against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the group stage of Asia Cup 2022. In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, England topped their group but lost the semi-final fixture against New Zealand which ended their campaign.
Afghanistan, on the contrary, came fourth in their group after losing against Pakistan, New Zealand, and India while defeating Namibia and Scotland. This year, the Mohammad Nabi-led side would look to get an early lead in their campaign and put a tough competition against the opponents. Though their chances look very slim, the players will try and give their best.
England will not have the services of their pacer Reece Topley, who has been ruled out after injuring himself during a training session. But as for the good part, openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales are in tremendous form. As for Afghanistan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz suffered a toe injury during the warmup game against Pakistan but is expected to be fit for the first game.
Pitch Conditions
The pacers can expect some good assistance in the beginning, but as the game moves forward, the pitch may become flat than usual. It is normally regarded as a surface that favors hitting, and it is believed that this game will be no different. The spinners are not well supported on this track.
