India and Australia will lock horns in the all-important semi-final fixture of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on February 23, Thursday. While Australia topped their group’s points table to become the first team to make it to the knockout stage, India finished second in their group to seal a spot in the top four teams across groups.

India and Australia last squared off in December 2022 when the Women in Yellow toured India. While the Aussies remained dominant throughout the series with four wins, the Women in Blue could manage only a win to their petty. In T20 World Cup, the two sides last faced each other in the finals of the 2020 global event, where the Aussies lifted the title for a record fifth time.

India’s record against Australia in T20 World Cup has been decent. The two teams have met five times in the marquee event over the years since its inception in 2009, and while India have won two contests, Australia have won the remaining three. Overall, in T20Is, Australia hold an upper hand over India having won 22 out of the 30 matches played in total.

The Aussies have been unbeaten in the tournament so far, having won all four games in the group stage. On the other hand, India faced a defeat against England but won the remaining three games to finish with six points to their name. The upcoming contest will be mouth-watering as the two sides have always put up cut-throat competition in T20Is whenever they’ve clashed.

Though Australia have managed to get an edge over India most of the time, the Women in Blue will be determined to win their semi-final contest so as to get a chance at claiming their maiden T20 World Cup title.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town has typically assisted the spinners, but the seamers have also taken advantage at the venue. Winning the toss, the skipper would look to chase the score as the batters get the best out of the pitch in the second half. The average first innings score here is 150 runs, thus the team batting first would look to put a total above 170 runs.
