The contest between India A and C ended, at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, in Anantapur, and saw India A clinch a brilliant victory from the jaws of table toppers to lift the 61st Duleep Trophy title.
Mayank Agarwal's India A looked brilliant with the bowl on the final day. The day started with the A quarter resuming their batting with an overnight score of 270/6, with Kumar Kushagra (40*) and Tanush Kotian (13*) at the crease. A couple of overs into the day, the side lost two wickets in the form of Kushagra and Avesh Khan in quick success. With the score reading 286/8, Agarwal signalled a declaration and set a challenging target of 350 to achieve on the final day.
The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side had a decent start to their chase, with Gaikwad and Vijaykumar Vyshak putting up a 36-run opening stand. Substitute fielder Shaik Rasheed drew the first blood for his side, as he inflicted a brilliant run-out to send Vyshak packing at the score of 17. From there, skipper and promising Sai Sudharsan took the onus to get the job done for their team. Putting up a 77-run stand, the duo took the score over the 100-run mark, before Aaqib Khan dismissed the captain at the score of 44. Rajat Patidar who walked in next, couldn't be a viable support to his partner as he lost his wicket after a short seven-run cameo.
With Sudharsan smashing the bowlers all around the park, India C lost four wickets in no time, in the form of Ishan Kishan (17), Abishek Porel (0), Pulkit Narang (6), and Manav Suthar (7) with the score reading 212/7. The only positive for the side was Sudharsan's sublime century, giving them a thin chance after losing wickets in tandem. The southpaw walked back after a 206-ball 111, lacing his innings with 12 boundaries.
India A were inching closer to a historic win, but the whole crowd gave a standing ovation when injured Baba Indrajith walked into bat to give his team the slightest of chance of winning the tie. The only chance for India C to win this tournament was to draw this game. Indrajith was a guest of two deliveries as Tilak Varma took an outstanding catch at short fine leg. Prasidh Krishna hammered the final nail in the coffin as he got the wicket of Anshul Kamboj to make sure that his team has the last laugh.
India A won the game with a huge margin of 132 runs. In the final innings, Krishna and Tanush Kotian were the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets each. Shashwat Rawat was awarded the Player of the Match for his contribution with the bat in both the innings. Anshul Kamboj was given the Player of the Series award for picking 16 wickets.
