Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s half-century in her 300th match for England set the stage for a thrilling last-ball victory against India in the fifth T20I at Edgbaston. Despite India winning the series 3-2, England held their nerve to chase down a challenging target of 168, marking the highest successful run chase in women’s T20Is on home soil.
Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley laid a solid foundation with a 101-run opening partnership that propelled England towards the target. Wyatt-Hodge reached her half-century off just 30 balls with a powerful pull through deep midwicket. After the openers fell, the chase became tense, with England needing six runs off the final over.
Arundhati Reddy struck twice in the first three balls of the last over, intensifying the pressure. England required five runs from three balls. Sophie Ecclestone kept her composure, slicing the ball through backward point and running three to bring the equation down to one run from the final delivery. Ecclestone then pushed the ball to mid-on, and despite Mandhana’s effort, her throw missed the stumps as England secured a dramatic last-ball win.

India’s total of 167 for 7 was largely built on the back of opener Shafali Verma’s impressive 75 off 41 balls. Her knock rescued India from a shaky 19 for 2 in the third over and helped set a competitive target despite little support from the rest of the batting lineup.
Charlie Dean was England’s standout bowler, taking 3 for 23, while Sophie Ecclestone claimed 2 for 28. England rested seamers Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer ahead of the upcoming ODI series, bringing back Em Arlott and Linsey Smith to boost their attack. Wyatt-Hodge’s previous half-century of 66 at The Oval also contributed to England’s only other series win.
Both teams now prepare for the three-match ODI series starting July 16 at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
