India ended their 2022 Asia Cup campaign with a massive 101-run win against Afghanistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The former captain Virat Kohli smashed his first T20I century to guide India to a big total of 212 runs while batting first. Then veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled his career-best spell by taking five wickets for four runs to help India register a big win.

Afghanistan won the toss and invited India to bat first with no changes to their starting eleven. India made three changes with skipper Rohit Sharma sitting out for Dinesh Karthik. Kohli opened the innings with stand-in captain KL Rahul and both the batters started on a positive note.

Kohli shifted the gears in the sixth over by smashing two fours and a six to Mujeeb Ur Rahman and then played attacking cricket till the end of the innings. Rahul also ended his poor run of form by smashing 62 off 41 before getting caught out on Fareed Ahmad's delivery in the 13th over. Fareed clean bowled Suryakumar Yadav in the same over to give some hopes for his team to restrict India to a below 200-run total.

But Afghanistan bowlers had no answer for Kohli, who went on to score his first-ever century in T20I cricket by smashing a big six in the 19th over. He remained unbeaten on 122 off just 61 and Rishabh Pant scored unbeaten 20 off 16 to help India put 212/2 in 20 overs. For Afghanistan, Fareed took two wickets while conceding 57 runs in his four-over spell.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar strikes early to put India in complete control

Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave India a flying start by dismissing both Afghan openers for ducks in the first over of the innings. He dismissed Hazratullah Zazai lbw on the fourth delivery and then clean bowled in-form wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz two balls later.

Bhuvneshwar took two more wickets in the third over to put India in complete control of the match. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Nabi and Afghanistan were struggling on 21/5 at the end of powerplay overs. Bhuvneshwar took his fifth wicket in the next over and ended his match-winning spell with 5/4.

Ibrahim Zadran kept scoring from the other end and went on to smash unbeaten 64 off 59. He scored two back-to-back sixes in the last over to end Afghanistan's innings on 111/8 in 20 overs. With this win, India ended their 2022 Asia Cup campaign in the third position in the Super 4 table with two points and Afghanistan remained at the bottom of the table with no points.
