AUS vs SA: Test Records and Stats at The Gabba, Brisbane

Australia will host South Africa in the first of three-match Test series at The Gabba in Brisbane, starting from Saturday. The Test series will be a resumption of the Australia vs South Africa rivalry for the first-time since their infamous 'Sandpaper' gate scandal in 2018. 

The sandpaper gate scandal will, however, continue to serve as a subplot to the Australia vs South Africa rivalry. The hosts will head into the series as the raging favourites with their No.1 World Test Ranking falling in their favour. However, they will be wary of the Proteas, who will pose a strong threat with their strong pace battery. South Africa have not been on a tour Down Under since 2016-17 but have won the past three Test series in Australia.

Australia are currently at top of the World Test Championship standings while South Africa are at the second spot. The hosts will need only 20 points from their remaining seven matches to qualify for the final while the Proteas will need at least one win in Australia to remain in contention. 

However, Australia hold a clear upper hand in the Test head-to-head record as they have won 52 out of the 78 times the nations have faced-off, in the longest format.
