Team India extended their dominance over Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-Test series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. At the end of Day 3, the visitors needed 357 runs to win the Test while India are six wickets away from taking the lead in the series.
Shubman Gill (119* off 176) and Rishabh Pant (109 off 128) continued from where they left off overnight to pile on more misery on the Bangladeshi bowlers. Both players completed their centuries before India declared setting Bangladesh a mammoth target of 515 runs.
Openers Zakir Hasan (33 off 47) and Shadman Islam (35 off 68) of the visiting side came out with the intent to score runs briskly in some proactive batting. Jasprit Bumrah broke the proactive opening stand but Bangladesh's No. 3 and their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (51 off 60) came out all guns blazing and putting the pressure on the Indian bowlers. Ravichandran Ashwin (3/63) bowled a marathon 15-over spell and put the brakes on Bangladesh by claiming three wickets although Shanto hit him for a few sixes.
