Half-centuries from Glenn Maxwell and skipper Faf du Plessis went in vain as Suryakumar Yadav hammered 83 off just 35 balls with seven fours and six maximums to help Mumbai Indians (MI) in defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in Match 54 of IPL 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Youngster Nehal Wadhera also struck an unbeaten 52 off 34 as MI reached their target of 200 with 21 balls to spare.

Speaking about how the game panned out, captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Virat Kohli got out cheaply for just one run while Anuj Rawat’s struggle continue as he managed only six runs. Faf stretched his red-hot form as he and Maxwell added 120 runs for the third wicket. The former got dismissed for 65 off 41 while Maxwell smashed 68 off just 33. Dinesh Karthik played a cameo of 30 off 18 as RCB posted 199/6 on the board.

In reply, Rohit’s poor form continued as he got out for just seven. The wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan, amassed 42 off 21 with four fours and as many sixes. But it was all about Suryakumar and Wadhera as the pair shared 140 runs for the third wicket.

The former was at his brutal best as he took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners. The home side looked in a hurry as they completed the chase in just 16.3 overs. With this victory, MI moved up to the third position in the IPL points table with 12 points while the Royal Challengers are on the seventh spot with ten points. For his blistering knock, Suryakumar grabbed the Player of the Match award.
