In a seesaw battle in Delhi, Afghanistan clinched a 69-run victory over England, powered by a brilliant bowling performance from Mujeeb Ur Rahman and an economical spell from Rashid Khan. Before the bowlers took charge, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ikram Alikhil played significant roles, helping Afghanistan set a competitive total.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, England faced a resilient Afghan opening partnership, with both openers amassing 114 runs. However, their fortunes changed as Afghanistan lost three wickets in quick succession. This included the departure of both openers, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring a solid 80 runs and falling victim to a run-out and Ibrahim contributing 28 runs before being dismissed. Adil Rashid accounted for both wickets. In the final stages, Rashid and Mujeeb played valuable cameos to guide Afghanistan to a total of 284 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Adil Rashid impressed with the ball, claiming three wickets, while Mark Wood secured two.

In response, England suffered an early setback as Jonny Bairstow was dismissed for just two runs by Farooqi. Shortly after, Joe Root fell for 11 runs, courtesy of a delivery from Mujeeb. Harry Brook played a resilient innings, amassing 66 runs from 61 balls, featuring seven fours and a six. Despite Brook's efforts, England lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually being bowled out for 215 runs, resulting in a defeat. Rashid and Mujeeb each claimed three wickets, while Nabi secured two and reached the milestone of 250 wickets across formats.
